SOIL AND GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION

SSG-BARCO is a certified tank closure and subsurface evaluation contractor capable of handling all aspects of tank closure and site remediation. The company has successfully provided both conventional and innovative technologies for the remediation of contaminated soils and ground water.

SSG-BARCO has successfully implemented three types of remedial actions for contaminated soils. Excavation, in-situ treatment and soil reuse with exposure controls have been effectively utilized separately or in combination. SSG-BARCO recognizes the importance of early coordination and communication with the client and other interested parties (insurance companies, local and state regulatory agencies) regarding properties undergoing remedial investigations or cleanup actions.

Excavation is the most common solution to small environmental cleanups.  Soils are removed and transported to licensed recycling facilities. Following excavation, soil samples are obtained and analyzed to document the effectiveness of the remediation.

In-situ remediation is applied to areas where excavation is not cost effective or can not be carried out safely.  Numerous sites have been successfully remediated using in-situ techniques such as the following.  All in-situ remedial measures require pre-approval and special permits prior to starting.

Bioremediation is a technology that encourages growth and reproduction of indigenous microorganisms to enhance biodegradation of organic constituents. SSG-BARCO has effectively utilized this technology employing microorganisms to transform hazardous contaminants into non-hazardous end products.

Chemical oxidation is a technique that chemically oxidizes the contaminants to carbon dioxide and water.  Chemical agents are added either in slurry form in combination with soil excavation or by direct injection.  Typical chemical oxidation agents are hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate solutions
