COMPANY HISTORY

SSG was founded as a small environmental consulting group servicing the petroleum industry and has grown steadily by providing prompt, reliable and cost effective services to our clients.  Consulting was initially focused on implementing spill plans and environmental compliance auditing associated with specialty equipment used at bulk fuel oil terminals.  Since it’s inception, SSG has grown and expanded into a full service environmental consulting and contracting company.

Barco Systems, Inc. (BSI) was founded by Arthur Barry in July of 1981 with the intent to offer a viable solution to the problems associated with sludges and debris caused breakdowns of residential and commercial fuel oil systems. The immediate goal of the company was to obtain proper training and certifications in the handling of waste materials as well as provide the services to interested fuel suppliers.  The process was quickly accepted by the industry with many dealers claiming reductions up to 25% in their total no-heat service calls. The company offered additional services including tank removal and installations, tank abandonment, tank testing, oil/water separator services, soil and ground water remediation and emergency response services. 

In January 2003 SSG and Barco Systems merged to form SSG-BARCO in order to establish a complete full service environmental team. By joining forces, SSG-BARCO has created a full service environmental consulting and contracting company with sufficient personnel and equipment to handle any remediation project.  The new team is experienced in preventing and correcting environmental problems, performing phase I assessments, removing and installing USTs and networking with the NJDEP to provide clients with the fastest case closure possible.

Our business is centered around servicing oil heat customers and facilitating environmental aspects of commercial and residential property transactions.  For the oil consumer, we offer turnkey removal and installation packages and can handle all aspects of soil and groundwater remediation.  For property transfers, we have a professional staff who conduct Phase I/II investigations and preliminary assessments. 

SSG-BARCO operates from a centrally located terminal in New Jersey allowing for efficient dispatch throughout the state. The location was selected to provide for convenient access to major roads and highways and as the approximate central point of the service area.  The physical facilities consist of approximately 6,000 square feet of warehouse and garage space. A separate office location in Monmouth Junction is home to the consultants, geologists, and other professional staff.

There are currently approximately 30 employees including principals, customer service, professional staff, and field operation crews.  The organization continues to exist in prestige and prominence within the environmental community and enjoys the confidence and recommendations of a diverse listing of commercial, industrial, and residential clients.
